Expressions of Love: Quality Time

The love language of “Quality Time” is a language of expressing love through spending focusing, unhurried time with another. Quality time is not time spent multi-tasking. Quality time is time spent doing and talking about things that are important to the one you love.  One who speaks the language of “Quality Time” is refreshed through one on one time.

Mark 1:35

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up,

left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

Here are some ideas to help your child express love for God using Quality Time?

  • Spend time with Jesus, focused and unhurried
  • Spend time in God’s creation
  • Spend time reading and memorizing God’s word
  • Spend time saying Thank you to God. With school aged kids go through the alphabet and think of something to say Thank you for with each letter, with preschool children use colors and shapes.

Here are some ideas to help your child express love for others using Quality Time?

  • Let your friend or sibling choose the activity and spend time doing what they want to do.
  • Practice the art of listening. Train your children how to ask open ended questions and then quietly let the other person answer.
  • Carve out time in your calendar to spend time with your neighbors and community.

Please share your ideas on how to guide your child to express love to God and others through Quality Time.

About familydiscipleshippath

My husband, Tim, and I have been married for 17 years and have 3 great children. Our girls are 13 and 11 and the baby boy is 9. We have been living in Redding, CA and serving at Risen King Community Church since August, 2000. I serve as the Family Ministries Pastor. As a mom and a pastor, I represent both the church and the home and am on a journey of discovering and communicating practical ways the church and family can partner together to guide the young ones in our lives to know and love Jesus and live their lives(their whole lives) in light of that love.
